Look no further, my blog will give you some step by step guided information on how to deep clean your laundry room, avoid lint fires, and to make better use of the space.
Clear the Dust
First things first, get out your handy dandy Swiffer. I recommend the Extendable duster for this project. As stated in my previous blogs, always start from the top and work your way to the bottom. Start by dusting the ceiling to get all those creepy spider webs, then work your way to the walls, appliances and baseboards.
Pro Tip- Dust increases during the winter months due to lack of ventilation and low humidity. It’s important to dust more frequently to stay on top of it.
Clean Behind Washer and Dryer
Enlist help in moving out the appliances to get behind them. You do not want to take this step on your own. Wear closed toe shoes.
If you are like most people you will probably find miscellaneous items that have slipped through the cracks throughout the process of weekly laundry loads. If you are lucky you may even find coffee money, but for the most part you will have the pleasure of finding old socks and underwear…yuck!
Once you have gotten rid of all of the varied items, be sure to have a vacuum handy. Make sure to vacuum the back of the appliances as well as the baseboards and floor. Then you can grab a bucket filled with cleaner, (I like to use Dawn dish soap and Pine-Sol Lavender) diluted with water and a microfiber cloth. Be sure to wash the walls, behind appliances and baseboards.
Pro Tip: Perhaps you might feel swayed to take apart the dryer vent to improve its performance. You can do this by talking to an expert in your area or simply by searching online.
Clean Inside Washer and Dryer
Failure to clean and keep up to your washer may open the door to many problems including odor, germs and mold.
Washer:
Add 4 cups of white vinegar to the detergent dispenser and 1/2 cup of baking soda to the softener dispenser. Turn washer onto large cycle on the hottest temperature and let it run its course. Once this is complete remove dispenser from washing machine and put into a hot water bath with a splash of bleach and let soak for 5-10 minutes. Spray some hydrogen peroxide into the gasket chamber. Grab a toothbrush and start scrubbing to get in all the dark hidden crevices. Grab a damp towel and wipe clean. By this time the dispenser should be ready to wipe clean and placed back into the washer. Wipe down top, sides and front of washer. Polish with Windex.
Dryer:
Mist the dryer drum with 1/2 vinegar 1/2 water solution and wipe clean. Pull thee lint screen out and and remove lint with finger tips. Rinse under warm water both sides and scrub clean with a toothbrush and detergent. Thoroughly dry lint screen with a dry towel and place back into dryer. Wipe clean top, sides and front of dryer. Polish with Windex.
Pro Tip: Lint is combustible. Always remember to clean your lint trap after every load.
Cupboards, Walls, baseboards and floors
Now it’s time to clean the remainder of the laundry room. Fill your bucket with some multi-purpose cleaner of your choice and some warm water. Start by grabbing a step stool to get to the tops of the cupboards, inside and out, the walls and the baseboards.
Pro Tip: If you see scuff marks that don’t come out with a wipe, I recommend using a magic eraser, it will come out like new!
Laundry Tub
Laundry tubs tend to take a beating. It’s important to have a more abrasive approach to this if you want it to look like new again. I recommend a scrub brush, some Vim and Baking Soda. Start by getting the sink wet then sprinkling the Bake Soda generously into the laundry tub. Squeeze some vim, approximately one tsp onto the bristle end of the brush and in circular motion start scrubbing the sink getting the sides, corners, tap and bottom of the sink. Once this step is complete you can rinse and dry the whole sink.
Pro-Tip: I like to use Windex to polish the taps and sink. It gives it a nice shiny finish.
Floors
Last, but not least, the floors. Grab the Vacuum and such away. Be sure the use the hose to get the dirt from the corners. Now you can grab your favorite floor cleaner and start to mop. Voila. You just deep cleaned your laundry room!
Pro-Tip: Laundry room floors tend to be smaller so for this I like to wipe the floor by hand. It makes it easier to do a more through clean of the floors.
I recommend a deep clean of your laundry room once a year. By doing so, there will be less dust build-up, your washer and dryer will be at its peek performance, and overall you will feel so much better about yourself and your home.
The Benefits to Having Your Home Cleaned Professionally
Do you ever think to yourself “I just don’t have the time and energy to clean my home”, but you end up doing it yourself anyways? We live in the 21st century where more and more people are looking to professional cleaning companies to have their homes cleaned.
People literally go crazy trying to plan around their days with chore lists, notes on the refrigerator, reminders that pop up on your phone, and it’s easy just to let it slide. “I’ll do it tomorrow.” And it never gets done.
There are many reasons to having a professional do the work and here are some:
People just don’t have the time– The upkeep to taking care and running a home takes up much of your time. It’s a full time job in itself. Example: You just emptied your laundry basket and turn around and it’s full again. Yes, it happens to all of us. Families and parents of children just don’t have the time to keep up to everything.
Professionals do a better job– Professional cleaners come well equipped and most cleaners are trained to do the job fast and efficiently. That’s because it is their full time job and they have the experience and tricks that come with cleaning a home.
It stresses people out– It can be overwhelming when you stop to take a look around your home and notice the little things like toothpaste splatter on the mirror, the greasy handprints on the patio windows, or the balls of dog fur under the couch. When you don’t have to worry about those things, you will have a whole new outlook and appreciation for professional home cleaners. You will even find that you are more aware of your surroundings and will make it a point to pick up after yourself and keep up with the dishes and laundry. That’s because you no longer need to worry about the rest.
Routine and Peace of Mind– When you call in the professionals you can set it up where they come in for scheduled visits. Whether it’s weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, you will always have that peace of mind knowing it will get done.
Those are just some of the reasons why you should consider calling in the professionals. I could go on and on, but I think you get the point as to why it might make sense for you to consider it. Save yourself time, stress, and free up your weekends.
Congratulations, you did it. You’ve finally taken some action towards that goal you’d set months ago and you’re determined. You made a decision to get to work on that oven grease, and nobody or nothing will get in your way, but once you get to the store to buy that degreaser you saw on a commercial the night before, you are left feeling defeated by what seems to be aisles and aisles of endless products. And then find yourself standing there with that all too familiar look of vacancy on your face wondering what you’ve done to deserve this. You may even just end up picking a product by playing the game “Eeny, meenie, miny, mo.” This could be disastrous.
I myself have been there. I have tried everything from trendy to picking products out of despair in hopes of finding something that works. It can be a little overwhelming especially when you go into the store not having a clue as to what you’re looking for.
Well guess what? I have news for you. After many years of trying different cleaning products I am happy to say that I now have products that I call my “Go to products”. I honestly couldn’t succeed in the line of work I do today without these must haves.
Here is a list of 6 of my favorite cleaning products:
Pine-sol
I use pine-sol on just about everything. It not only smells great, but it kills 99.9 percent of germs and it’s safe on wood.
Microfiber Clothes
Microfiber clothes are eco friendly because they have many different uses and are washable. You can use them wet or dry. I use mine to dust, polish glass and stainless steel. They work great wet on countertops, walls, bathtubs and sinks.
Lysol Toilet Bowl Cleaner
Lysol works great for cleaning toilets. I find it has the right consistency of gel thickness leaving your toilet fresh looking and clean.
Fantastic Grease and Grime
I use fantastic on stove tops, oven fans and microwaves. It cuts through grease like a ninja.
Swiffer Dusters
Swiffer dusters lock in dust and dirt unlike your typical duster. They are a little pricey, but worth every penny.
Magic eraser
These beauties are a life saver! They erase everything from marks on walls to bathtub grime. I highly recommend having at least one of these in every household. It comes in handy when you need it.
I hope this blog has helped you. Now you can get to work and save yourself from squandering hours.
Do you every look around your house and think “Where do i begin?” Or how about, that spare room that you’ve been wanting to clean and get organize for months now, but you just can’t bring yourself to tackle the mess on your own, so you just shut the door and pretend it doesn’t exist.
Hiring just the right housekeeper can be life-altering for the busy family. Now this may seem to be a little over-the-top, but I am serious. Think about your life-whether single, a couple or a family-you have no time. No time to keep your home as organized or clean as you would like. No time to do the smaller tidying jobs that would make a huge difference.
At the risk of sounding like a cloyingly optimistic Peppy Patty (which I can assure you, I am not), I never really understood all the pervasive hate for Mondays. I get that easing yourself from the freedom of the weekend into the structure of the workweek is a bit of a shock to the system…
“I am still learning about my home. If you can’t do it yourself, find good service people and treat them well.” — Terry (mom to our Human Resources Coordinator, Louisa)
Raise your hand if you grew up with a mom (or another parental figure) constantly reminding you to clean your room. Often, our earliest memories of figuring out how to tidy up and take care of our homes are with our moms—they taught us how to do laundry, how to do the dishes, and how to make our beds. So it should come as no surprise that when we asked our moms for their best homekeeping advice, they came back with some great tips.
Most agreed on a few major themes: it’s important to make sure everything has a home, that you put things back when you take them out, and that your home is an inviting, relaxing place to come home to—and invite others to.

Do you ever casually go about your day, popping into the kitchen for a little peanut butter toast and then the next thing you know you’re turning over the toaster oven because it’s been so long and you just can’t take the crumbs anymore?
Our spring cleaning journey has been about turning over some lesser-cleaned leaves and refreshing your space to feel brand new for the season ahead. So in many ways, today’s assignment is symbolic of the whole shebang. We’re going to be flipping and turning, revealing a fresh new face for some of the most-used…
